14 February 2011
Melbourne, Australia 14 February 2011 -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has appointed a new managing director for the next phase of its growth in Australia and New Zealand.
Effective 1 March 2011, Michael Martens, currently Managing Director for Goodyear North Asia and Vice President of Asia Pacific OTR (Off The Road) has been appointed Managing Director for Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). He will continue to report to Pierre Cohade, President of Asia Pacific, and relocate to the company’s Melbourne office.
Outgoing Managing Director of Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres, Judith Swales, will leave Goodyear in order to pursue her interest of holding non executive board positions in Australia. Swales joined Goodyear in September 2005 as the VP of Retail for ANZ and in 2007 became the CEO and Managing Director.
“Judith has been instrumental in building the ANZ business to become a major contributor to the growth of the Asia Pacific region,” said Cohade. “Her leadership, drive to succeed and passion for the business will be missed. We wish her well as she embarks on this new phase in her career,” he added.
Martens, who has been with Goodyear for over 25 years in various finance and general management positions, spent the last 11 years of his career in Asia Pacific and has extensive knowledge of the region. Over the last three years, Martens has built the Goodyear success story in China and in the OTR market, transforming our business model and achieving successive record breaking performances.
“I am pleased to announce a strong and highly capable successor to lead our ANZ operations. Mike has been pivotal in taking our China business to new heights and anticipating well the challenges and opportunities that come with China’s rapid auto boom,” said Cohade.“Mike’s proven leadership and experience in both mature and emerging markets within Asia Pacific make him an ideal fit for this position. ANZ is critical to our region’s growth strategy and I’m confident that Goodyear will enjoy further success under Mike’s leadership,” Cohade concluded.
