Innovation

The continuous flow of creative new ideas, products and materials - has always been at the very core of Goodyear's activities. The company established a major research facility in 1943, which has since received thousands of patents. Major inventions by Goodyear's scientists and technicians have been used not only in tyres and automotive products, but also in artificial hearts and joints, adhesives, artificial turf for playgrounds and food packaging, to name only a few. Goodyear Research was the training ground for Paul Flory, a Nobel laureate in the field of polymers. Two research associates have been awarded the Goodyear Medal, the highest award of the Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society, which honours scientists and engineers who have made outstanding innovations. Goodyear Research scientists and engineers today come from all over the world and continue working at the cutting edge of rubber and polymer science. They have also branched out into such diverse fields as computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering mechanics, metallurgy and others to create a myriad of unique materials and processes.

Our Technologies

Silent Armor
Developed specifically for the most demanding 4x4 applications, Goodyear’s Silent Armor technology consists of two high tensile steel belts wrapped with a spiral overlay of DuPont Kevlar. The result is unparalleled strength (Armor Zone) with greatly reduced road noise (Quiet Zone).

RunOnFlat
With Goodyear’s RunOnFlat tyre technology, drivers can carry on driving for at least 80km at up to 80km/h at very low or zero inflation. So should a tyre ever lose pressure on the open road, you’ll have time to reach a safe place to solve the problem.

Bubble Blade
Exclusive to the Ducaro GA and Eagle GT3, our Bubble Blade technology employs a unique ‘ball and socket’ locking tread that provides superior traction without compromising handling. Engineered for the environment, Eco technology provides exceptionally low rolling resistance to reduce overall fuel omission. Exclusive to the Eagle NCT5 Eco, it offers drivers fantastic fuel economy and mileage.

OneTRED
OneTRED technology continuously transfers forces from one side of the tread to the other, resulting in fewer squirms and excellent handling on wet or dry roads. It’s this superior performance that has seen our Eagle F1 GS-D3 unanimously voted best high performance tyre by many leading motoring magazines.

Duraseal
Duraseal technology uses a gel-like, solvent-free compound built into the inner liner of the tyre to instantly seal punctures up to 6mm in the tread crown area. In short, it’s a tyre that repairs itself. Duraseal’s puncture sealing capability lasts through multiple retreads.
